Trauner was selected by The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways to rewrite the 1994 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction and Supplemental Specifications.

Trauner was selected by the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA) to provide project monitoring, audits, oversight, inspection, schedule review and approval, cost review, change order review, claims preparation, and to development and present training courses on claims avoidance and change order management.

Trauner developed and delivered this training course to various transit agencies throughout the country.

Trauner assisted Caltrans in the update and technical editing of portions of its Construction Manual and provided format conversion services for use on Caltrans' internet web page.

The Marquette Interchange project is a revitalization of an interchange that has served as the life force of southeastern Wisconsin, currently handling approximately 1/3 of the freeway traffic for the state. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has developed a plan to replace the current interchange with a design aimed at encouraging smooth traffic flow, reducing lane jumping, and reducing the potential for traffic delays. The project started in 2004 and is set to wrap up in 2008. Two lanes of through traffic are to remain open in all directions during the construction process. WisDOT also plans to work closely with the community in order to reduce the inconveniences associated with keeping a smooth flow of traffic during the construction.

Easy, industry-wide access to thousands of state-of-the-art highway specifications is now available at one URL due to the development of the National Highway Specifications Website project, a collaborative effort of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Trauner not only developed this National Highway Specification Website, but also developed ways to maintain it.

NCHRP 10-68, Guidelines for the use of Pavement
Trauner is conducting a two-year $400K study concerning the use of pavement warranties in the highway industry to determine the state of practice in the industry, develop a method of project selection, and develop best practice guidelines and model specifications to be incorporated into the AASHTO Primer.

Trauner was hired by the Maine Department of Transportation (Maine DOT) to provide independent cost estimating for this project. Essentially, Trauner developed the cost estimate from the perspective of a bidding contractor. This helped Maine DOT procure in a non-traditional design build method, in which the designer and contractor are hired separately. Services included a site visit, preparation of estimate, and presentation of findings.

Performance Specs for Rapid Highway Renewal
To address the challenges of moving people and goods efficiently and safely on the nation's highways, Congress has created the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP II). Trauner has been tasked under the SHRP II program to assist with the highway renewal program over the next five years.
