Scott Lowe to Present NHI Course in Newington, CT, “Principles and Applications of Highway Construction Specifications,” July 31 – August 1, 2018.

Scott Lowe will be presenting a 2-day NHI Course in Newington, CT, titled “Principles and Applications of Highway Construction Specifications,” on July 31st and August 1st, 2018.  The course includes content that highlights the role of specifications as contract documents and tools for assigning risk.  Course participants will engage in lessons and practice sessions to identify types of specifications, select the most appropriate type for a given project, and generate an original, effective highway construction specification.  Emphasis is placed on the use of basic grammar and writing style so that participants can produce correct, consistent, clear, complete, and concise specifications.

Mark Nagata and Mike Ryan to Speak at 2018 AACE International Conference and Expo, San Diego, CA, 6/24-27, 2018

Mark Nagata will be presenting a paper, titled “Criticism of the ASCE Schedule Delay Analysis Offsetting Delay Concept,” on Monday, June 25th, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., at the AACE International Conference and Expo, 6/24-27/2018, in San Diego, CA.  Mark will be presenting a second paper, titled “Proposing a Better Definition of Critical Path,” on Tuesday, June 26th, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Mike Ryan will be presenting a paper, titled “Proper Application of  TIAs to Measure Delay on Government Projects,” on Sunday, June 24th, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., with Bryan Van Lenten.

The papers presented in the technical program represent the best and most current tools and techniques used in industry today – covering a wide range of programs and projects.  There are over 100 hours of presentations to choose from, over a four-day period, organized in a variety of tracks, such as: building information modeling; claims and dispute resolution; cost and schedule control; professional development; estimating; earned value management; global projects; IT/IM in project and cost management; owner issues; project management; planning and scheduling; decision and risk management; skills and knowledge of cost engineering; and total cost management.

Mark Nagata and Mike Ryan will be presenting a 2-1/2 day NHI Course in Charlottesville, VA, “Managing Highway Contract Claims: Analysis and Avoidance,” from February 27-March 1, 2018.  The course provides the basic tools to address the management and avoidance of highway construction claims.  Mark and Mike will present the evaluation of a highway contract claim by focusing on three claim components:  entitlement, impact, and cost.  Participants will learn claims avoidance techniques, as well as how to identify and review best practices associated with successful dispute resolution.
